The Krewerth family – since 1988
Ashley’s Garden is not a chain hotel, it is a home away from home – run by the family that lives inside the house. Since 1988 the Krewerth family has led this 4-star Boutique Hotel in Düsseldorf-Golzheim with personal care, a clear host’s hand, and the attention to detail that turns guests into regulars.
Today the second generation carries the day-to-day: Sabine Krewerth as the heart of the house, her son Maurice running operations, daughter Laura Werner shaping brand and communication, and daughter-in-law Lisa Krewerth looking after people and HR. Behind them a team grown over many years – personal, professional, and genuinely interested in every guest.

From Golzheimer Krug to Ashley’s Garden
The building at Karl-Kleppe-Straße 20 was built in 1938 as the Golzheimer Krug – a gathering place at the edge of the newly finished Weiße Siedlung, a short walk from the Rhine and the Nordpark.
In 1988 Sabine and Bernd Krewerth took the house over and turned it, step by step, into a boutique hotel with character. In 1994 Laura Ashley gave her personal blessing to the new name: the British country-house style fitted the white brick houses of Golzheim so naturally that it became the face of every room. Bernd’s love for British motor cars – Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar – became the second trademark of the house.
Today Ashley’s Garden carries the 4-star rating of the German Hotel Classification for nearly four decades – most recently renewed for 2025 to 2028.
Hosting since 1988
Ashley’s Garden is a family business – not as a slogan, but as daily life. Mother and son run the house day in, day out; daughter and daughter-in-law shape brand and team.
Sabine & Bernd Krewerth
Took over the traditional Golzheimer Krug in 1988 and reshaped it into a boutique hotel with its own character. Their vision: warmth, personality and real hospitality – deliberately far away from the big hotel chains.
Sabine & Maurice Krewerth
Sabine has been in the house every day since 1988 – with an eye for every detail and the warmth that turns guests into regulars. Her son Maurice took over operations in 2010. Together with head chef Thorsten Lehmann they shape the culinary signature of the house.
Laura Werner & Lisa Krewerth
Laura Werner – Sabine’s daughter – leads brand identity and communication. Lisa Krewerth – Maurice’s wife – runs people and organisation. Two roles that hold a family house together day by day.
Between Weiße Siedlung & Nordpark
Our address sits on one of the boundary streets of one of Düsseldorf’s most distinctive quarters – a green, quiet ensemble of white-rendered brick houses between the Rhine, the Nordpark and the Messe. 56 architects designed the Weiße Siedlung in 1937 on the garden-city model – placed under heritage protection in 2014.
Next door lies the 28-hectare Nordpark with Edwin Scharff’s Horse Tamers, the Japanese Garden of 1975, and the EKŌ House – the only Jōdo-Shinshū temple in Europe. Düsseldorf hosts the third-largest Japanese community outside Japan – and our quarter is its cultural centre.
The street itself remembers Karl Kleppe – a Düsseldorf master painter and resistance fighter of the Aktion Rheinland, the group that secured the peaceful surrender of the city in 1945.
